7 Tips to Improve Focus Quickly and Get Things Done

You have to be always on, all the time. Entrepreneurs are the ones who need to be focused a lot. Sometimes it is required to be on call 24/7, reading and replying to emails is an hourly activity. The fear of getting caught in FOMO is making entrepreneurs hustle and bustle. But staying focused in the fast-paced world we are living in is a concern for many. I am no different.

It was so challenging to start out with ProofHub, a project management software, with so many competitors in the marketplace. Bringing a new product or service into the marketplace requires a lot of hard work and focus. But how ProofHub has reached 85,000+ teams and businesses worldwide, clearly shows that I have been focused completely.

Here are the things that helped me throughout to build better entrepreneurial focus:

1. Focus on What You Can Do Today

David Allen in his book ‘Getting Things Done’ emphasises that instead of thinking about your goals, focus on the specific tasks that will eventually take you closer to the goals you want to reach.

The only thing you should think about is what you have to do right now. Keep everything out of your mind when you are focusing on one thing at a time. Here’s how I do it:

  • At the start of every month, I think about and clarify my goals
  • Every week I make a weekly to-do list
  • I spend time thinking about what I have to do. For example, if it’s the design of the website then that time is only for this task.

2. Build Accountability for Yourself

Staying focused on one thing at a time is one thing, building accountability is to find yourself right back where you started. What I do is make a public announcement: with the team, with clients or management. Whatever I have planned to do, I announce it ahead, so I am more accountable to get things done on time. That way I stay focused. Whenever a new feature is upcoming in ProofHub, I announce it ahead, so I do not get away from my path and make sure things come up on time.

3. Keep Email to a Minimum

When I keep my daily work streamlined on ProofHub, it saves me from having to look at emails several times a day. I get more time to focus on what I have to do than to keep checking emails every now and then and replying over there. ProofHub helps to have a discussion over a topic with any number of people, to have quick conversations, to share files and documents at a place with multiple people, and to manage who is doing what. It is one place for all project and team collaboration to have ultimate control for on-time project delivery.

ProofHub does wonder for entrepreneurs. Give it a try.

4. Tackle Big Things First Thing

If you’re like most entrepreneurs, you’d be having a pretty big list of things to do. It won’t be down to zero until you die. I handle my long list of to-dos by sorting them according to their priorities. The best part is I can do that using ProofHub. It has an amazing feature where you can have your to-do list, sort it according to priorities, add labels and due dates, and share it with people you want to. I prefer to get things off my plate first thing in the morning. If it’s a big thing, it gets the first place in the morning, so I am good to go by my day. If you’re confused with what to do first, just ask yourself these simple questions:

  • What’s the value of getting it done?
  • What’s the risk if I don’t?

5. Celebrate Your Wins

We tend to focus on the big results rather than small steps to take you to that goal. The problem that occurs when not acknowledging small wins means being demotivated. Demotivation takes us to the belief that the goal is a lot far and difficult to reach. Therefore, it is important to celebrate your wins, small or big. Make sure you celebrate your small wins along the way. Busy entrepreneurs can burn out if they don’t take time to celebrate the small stuff. Doing this will release chemicals that will give you the feeling of pride and feel-good thing to go towards your next achievement.

6. Carve Out Time When You’re Unplugged

Carving out some downtime can be challenging for entrepreneurs. I like to carve out blocks of time that I’m going to be unplugged where I do a deep dive into writing a piece, going through some motivating videos, or working on a speech. Or sometimes I prefer to take a break from technology. During this time stop checking for emails.

ProofHub is a great alternative for messy email threads. Give it a try.

7. Remove Yourself from the Usual Work Environment

“My dad always told me to take a moment to think, pause, and reflect every time I had to make important business decisions. When I have to think of things from a different angle, I separate myself from daily chores to think creatively. Trying doing this can make you do so much.
