All these companies owe its success to their employees and leaders. They are looking for initiatives that will bring an insight to educate employees about principles to employee engagement programs. But what is employee engagement anyway? Before we move any further, let me first explain this to you
Employee engagement is the act of employees behaviors that will lead to improved business outcomes. It is about working on their attitude that will bring positive change and reinforce one another. It is about drawing on ideas from employees to improve services about how we work.
2017 Employee Engagement Report by TINYpulse concluded certain pointers that you can begin working on to improve employee engagement. These include:
- Measuring constantly how your employees feel about the work culture.
- Recognizing employees for their efforts and start recognizing their efforts so that their no deed goes unnoticed.
- Building team activities throughout the organization to bring together peers across all departments.
- Map out career paths by sitting together with employees.
- Investing in opportunities related to development to ensure professional growth.
- Valuable and timely feedback on performance by holding regular 1:1 meetings.
How can leaders improve engagement when they do not know where to start? Employee engagement will not only increase productivity, but also increase the competitive edge of the company. Thus, leaders need to make employee engagement a priority and increase retention.
You need to focus on the following factors and if all these things are not taken care of, it will decrease employee engagement and so will employees’ attitude.
Focus on employee health
How do your employees feel when they arrive at work, how they spend their time at work and how they go? Employees are often working hard overlooking their health and well being, but it is of fact that poor health will inhibit the growth of employment and an unhealthy employee will tend to be more disengaged.
Bad health will destroy their focus and self-confidence. So an employer needs to invest in programs that take steps to improve employee health and deliver an important message to them that their well-being is as important as their presence in the office.
Focus on offering visibility
The visibility can be increased when employees can easily reach out to the managers and C-suite positions in the office for assistance and guidance. Moreover, the employees should be recognized for their contributions and achievements that will motivate them to perform well.
Focus on rewarding great work
Often, with time as the company grows, the employees are not recognized for their contributions towards the business. Their ideas are no longer rewarded. So, the manager should initiate sharing ongoing feedback that will enhance engagement in office.
To retain top talent, you need to appreciate employees for their work as they often leave jobs because they are not happy with their pay or are not ultimately engaged. Thus, managers should focus on creating a rewarding environment to appreciate team members that will help to ignite satisfaction and is critical in promoting engagement.
Focus on putting people at the heart of the culture
A company should understand that their employees are their greatest asset and they have a life apart from office. You need to give your employees the opportunity to balance work and life easily by allowing them flexible working hours or other options that make a healthy work culture.
This will make a big change in their performance and you will reap the benefits of an engaged workforce. Also, you can encourage your employees to balance their work by participating in social events, share ideas and suggestions in various ways and giving honest feedback.
A critical part of employee engagement is a work environment where the employees feel valued. Actually, there is no secret to employee engagement, you can engage them by asking them about things that will help them in becoming more engaged at work than they are right now.
Leaders should treat their employees the way they want to be treated. Do not forget that a company’s best asset is employee, and employee engagement is the best way to preserve your assets!
